Artist Statement

This body of work, like the world that surrounds us, is informed by a variety of ideas with infinite possibilities that result in an additive artistic process. It is a continuous effort to translate abstract thoughts of process, singularity, and causation into visual images; thus opening a world of conceptual landscapes beyond the tangible world. The work primarily relates to the string theory, Daoist philosophy, and the forms found in natural world, making the process both spiritual and scientific. The spiritual half, Daoist philosophy, believes that all things influence each other, creating an ever-changing balance. String theory, the scientific half, proposes that all matter is composed of the same material: immeasurable vibrating strings. In order, to express these ideas, the paintings are built from abstract line, form, and color referencing aspects of nature, movement, and the interconnectivity of all things and/or events.

Earth Lines: IN PROGRESS

It was a very productive week. This is one of many things I have to show for it.
This piece started very earthy and is now moving back towards the bright, primary colors that I love. Many more layers to come, but i'm pretty proud of what I have done so far.

the whole darn thing

from "Aphorisms" by Wols

All Cassis the stones, the fish
the rocks seen through a magnifying glass
the salt of the sea, and the sky
made me forget that man is important,
they urged me to turn my back
on the chaos of human affairs
they showed me eternity
in the little waves of the harbor
which are always the same without being the same.
Nothing can be explained, all we know is the appearances.
All loves lead to one love, and
beyond all personal loves
there is the nameless love,
the great mystery,
the Absolute,
the cosmos
the Holy Ghost
the One
the Infinite.
The Abstract that permeates all things
is ungraspable
In every moment
in every thing
eternity is present

landscape/line experiements continued

These both will serve as experiments in combining a more simplified, primitive paint application with more precise, careful lines moving through and forming the composition. I am thinking about a more organic process, I feel these are closer to nature, as well as song, movement, and landscape. The underlayers in my past few have been much more controlled and thoughtful, or at least that's how they feel as i've been painting them.

abstract landscape from previous post, now with line moving through it

beginning of another experiment of a similar nature-more organic paint application. line to be incorporated.

Landscapes: Lake George

some landscape work
first experiments with water mixable oil paints, and i must say i like them.

beginning of a possible abstract landscape--thinking along same lines as "The Birth and The Death of a Day" painting from the fall

view from the top of the boat house, on Lake George. couldn't finish from sight due to rain, but will finish from memory later.

both are oil on canvas paper, 12"x16"

Swirling Landscape

made this on wednesday, with only primary colors and my hands.
oil on canvas board, 11"x14" (i think)
making things like this reminds me a lot of movement, music and landscape which are elements i would like to push a bit more in my paintings
i had intended other things for this painting, but now they do not seem appropriate. still have more decided if i am going to continue work on it or not..
