Worked on a few things today, all of which are pretty different from each other. Will probably give each one its own post from here on out, but trying to catch up. Plus, they will all (hopefully) end up informing each other.

pebbles, oil, stones, gesso on wood

Last week...
So last week was a slow week, honestly, I was kinda busy turning 21. (yikes) But here's what I did get done:
This one is done/almost done, at least for the time being. I put a final glaze of a dark brown over top, which I think help unify the piece's many layers. Going to set it aside for the time being and maybe go back to it if it demands the attention.
Moving away from the bright colors for now and trying to work with some more earth colors in this one. Plans for several layers to come.

Particle Board: 2
IN PROCESS (??):
Smaller scale and thinking back to the last particle board painting. Working the painting and the wood in a similar way, but aiming for a more detailed, more physical approach. Right now working on bring out the small pieces of wood in darker tones.
Not sure if it's done or to keep going or to just let it sit for now, but here's what i've got so far.
yikes...sorry about the coloring. not sure what happened there, probably just different white balances. technology...

Natural Lines: Blue--in process
IN PROCESS:
I have been working on documenting work as I leave it at the end of each day. I've been working on this one since last week. Still going to continue working on it from this point, however it's getting close to where I want it to be.
The goal of this is to work with the material in a variety of ways, working the paint to its full extent and experimenting with layers and color. Also, continuing with similar line forms as in my last 2 pieces, and experimenting with the lines and composition, placement, color, and layering.
oil on canvas, 24 1/2" x 21 1/2"

Church Street Walls: pre-painting
After we took down all the pictures of things off the walls, we discovered exactly how smoke stained they had become over the year. This are extremely photoshopped, dramatized images.

Mark Rothko: I Paint Very Large Pictures
"I paint very large pictures. I realize that historically the function of painting large pictures is painting something very grandiose and pompous. The reason I paint them, however-I think it applies to other painters I know-is precisely because I want to be very intimate and human. To paint a small picture is to place yourself outside your experience, to look upon an experience as a stereopticon view with a reducing glass. However you paint the large pictures, you are in it. It isn't something you command."
